You might want to know about counselling before your first visit. Perhaps you want help for a problem? Or to have more self-awareness, better understand your feelings or try new things? Counselling could be your answer.

Counselling

Counselling is the activity of discussing your problems with a qualified mental health counsellor. Your counsellor will listen and give you full attention. Sometimes, an understanding ear might be all that is needed. Discussing things makes them clearer. You may learn new skills and new ways to look at things. Soon, your understanding broadens and confidence increases.

Reasons why people come to Counselling

Clients seek help from a counsellor for many reasons. For example, you might have a problem you can’t quite cope with by yourself, or a vague feeling that something is not right and you want to talk it over. Instead, you might want to explore your world-view, take a new direction, get more out of life or be happier. Or improve your relationships and self-confidence.

Further, you might be anxious or stressed, or dealing with something unexpected. If you’ve lost a loved one or a job, received bad news or there’s a serious illness in the family, talking things over can help ease the stress.

Moreover, you might want to stop smoking but cannot quit by yourself. Often smoking is related to other problems, such as anxiety and stress. Managing these problems as well as quitting will get you where you want to be – healthier and with more money to spend on better things!

In fact, clients bring many problems to counselling, including addiction, anxiety, depression, grief, panic, phobia, relationships and recovery from abuse or trauma. Sadly, some people feel anxious all the time but don’t know why. We can help you find out and feel better!

Change

Coping with life-changes or milestones, such as children leaving home, menopause or a parent dying could bring you to counselling, In fact, any problem relating to how you are feeling or thinking could be a reason to visit a counsellor. They will let you know if they can help you, and if not, point you to someone who can.

Whatever your concern, visiting a counsellor can be a rewarding experience. You can gain confidence, independence and a new lease on life. If you need help, why not give it a try?
